I have been teaching in the Hustisford School District since January 2012. I have taught a wide variety of English classes during my career here. My husband and I have three boys who love to play outside and read books with me. I am excited to be teaching a variety of students each day.
English classes follow the Common Core Curriculum. This curriculum provides a guideline for where students should be at by the end of the school year.
Within the different English classes, students work towards mastery of the five learning strands:
- Reading Literature
- Reading Informational Texts
- Writing
- Language
- Speaking and Listening
The students will also work on:
- critical thinking skills
- problem solving
- empathy
- cultural awareness
This year, I have the privilege of teaching English 10, Honors English 10, English 11, Honors English 11, and semester-long Senior English electives. Seniors work on college-level reading and writing expectations in Advanced Composition. Creative Writing allows students to flex their writing skills in different ways. Students explore and discuss novels in Dystopian Literature and Contemporary Literature.
